SLIGHT CHANGE IN IilOIIT AND
WATl'll HATES
A mass meeting wns hold nt the
court houso Tuesday night nt
which tlmo tho proposition or rais-
ing light and water rates slightly
was discussed. Tho matter was
presented by Mayor h. L. Long
who reported tho rates which nio
being chnujed by surrounding towns
and tho audition of their plant
Practically all tho smatl plants of
the surrounding townn which vhnvo
been In use for any length qf tlmo
nru "blowed up" a gicr.t portion of
the time. This is largely duo to
Inadequate intos as well ns Improp-
er management In soma Instances.
Beaver has been enjoying excellent
servlco right along nnd to maintain
such satisfactory service. It seemed
nocessary at this time to provide
.for future emergencies which might
Ticcur. At tho presont time and for
somo tlmo tho light nnd water
plant has been breaking oven and
sorvlco ha been good. Tuesday
nights proposition was to rniso tho
rates slightly and provide an
emergency fund. There was no op-
position expressed all scorning to
bo ngrecd that an emergency provi-
sion was best and accordingly It
was voted to placo tho light rate.
In tho.J)UslnesB district at lGc. per
kilowatt for tho first forty wattB
nnd 10c per kilowatt for all addi-
tion current used. Water rate
wore rates woro revised from thv
present rate' ot $1.00 for first 2
000 gallons and 25c per thou land
for additional gallons to $1 00 roi
llrst 1000 gallons and 26c per
thousand additional. This gives tie
the same water lato that la charred
at Alva and a cheaper light rati
than Is pnld at Woodward.
Morning sorvlco until noon on
Mondnya and Wednesdays was pio-
vldcd for." Tlio usual ccry morn
ing servico f co in 5:30 till 8:30 n.
'in. will also bo continued nnd. In
addition It sufficient lights will be
used on dark days to furnish ic-
; slstance for the big engine light
service will be given on dork dayE.
This last Item certainly would prove
' ii boom to business pooplo for there
nio ninny daya In tho winter in pnr-
; ticular. whon It Is almost iutpoB-
' slblc to seo to do clerical worlc or
any work whore tho eyes play an
( Important part. We belluve that
It It Is generally understood that
tlio lights will be provided on dark
days there will bo no .question as to
enough being used to furnish all
tho resistance necessary. This of-
fice 'will turn on all the lights
wo have and burn all 'tho "Julco"'
possible for we sure" want tho
lliptSV both at tho orrife find' 'fit
home on dark days.
Tho city dnds arc" to bo con-
gratulated upon their move nt this
time to safe-guard our water and
light service. Tho additional ex-
penso will bo small nnd reiTi service
will thereby bo guaranteed.
Wo notice somo mighty bum
looking coal being delivered about
. town this week. Wo havo also
somo mighty loud "roaring" he-
1 causo of It too. Don't howl now
Coal dealers and this paper plead
with tho peoplo to lay In their
supply of coal last summer when
prices were right nnd good coal
was. obtainable but ou wouldn't
do It. Wo told you that good coal .
would be hard to get but you would .
nnv nn nttnntlnn. You called It!
J "newspaper talk" and propaganda
put out by coal dealers to attract
trade. How about It now? Better
pay a Kit lo attention to such mat-
ers In future or else when you
get "stung" don't holler. - --

WAVE
This section and Beaver county
In general has been visited by
another big rain tho past week.
There certainly Is no discount on
tho rainfall that we havo been get-
ting this fall. Could It bo bottled
up and. dthponned as needed during
tho summer mqnths .there would
be enough nnd moro. than onough
to produco bumper crops next sea-
boii. Tho ground Is thoroughly biit-
urated. The rain has been accom-
panied by a colder wave the morn-
ings boing mighty crisp and evon
during tho day heavier clothing
has not come amiss.
