B. fc' Btedmaa and family and Mr.
aadMrs. Covert of Wishlta Kaaeas
returned Sunday from 'a aaetortrip'to
Texas points goiag as far as El Paso.
Mrs. Covert was formerly Miss Blanch
Stedaaan sad she aad her husband had
been visiting at the Stedroan ranch on
Mexico creek for some time before
the party went on the outing. They
returned Tuesday to their home in
Wichita.' Mr. Htedman reports the
seetion of Texas ovor which they mot-
ored as being very dry and barren.
Large attle reaches occupy most of
(he country and it is said that many of
the cattle are dying and all are very
poor on account of no grass. Stedman's
were glad to get back to old Beaver
county where the cattle on a thousand
hills look 8ne and where the grass de-
spite the drouth is providing ample
pasturage.

I heaviest rains for many years Friday
evening and it all came in almost less
time than it takes to tell about it. The
water simply came down in torrents
and flooded the whole face of the
ground. Ravines and gulches were
running bankful and the streets of
Beaver were rivers of water The storm
came up from the northweet and after
ehanglng about to every point of the
compass in quick succession finally
came back from the south with a rush
and accompanied bv rain of torrential
proportions. Only an inoh of water
fell according to the government
gauge as reported by Local Observer
E. L. Fickel but it eame down so
quickly that It flooded everything and
was more like a cloudburst than any-
thing else.
Considerable wind accompanied the
rain and did much damage to small
buildings barns ebicken houses etc.
A porch was blown off I. N. Phelps
home; Sheriff Couch's garage was
blown down as was also J. B. Nerton's
barn and many other small buildings
were demolished. Many of the women
of the town suffered great losses in
young chicks some losing as many as
two or three hundred. The wind and
rain was followed by a fleroe electrical
storm. Lightning struck the Geo
Krouse house in Beaver Heights
wrecking the chimney and stripping off
several patches of shingles and siding.
The damage to the house was covered
by insurance we understand.
Hall aeeompanied the storm in many
sections but not enough to do mater
ial damage. The rain will be of great
benefit to row orops.

THE LBCUST I0RER.
Some "dope" on "The Locust borer"
was received at this office this weak
from the A.AM. Experimental Sta-
tion at 8tlllwater. It eame about
twelve months too lata to be of benefit
to the writer and many others of this
section 'whose locust trees were de
stroyed last year by borers. The edi
tor of The Herald had a fine locust
grove on her farm which waa com
pletely killed last year by the pests.
Maay other 'locust groves were de-
stroy sd. The pamphlet gives informs-
tion for getting rid of the borers. If
our readers have locust trees which
have not been infested aa yet they
would de well to send to the Experi
ment Station at Stillwater and get
the pamphlet. It is sent free for the
asking. Those who with may read the
bulletin we have in the oflee in welcome.
