Mr. Task has been a friend to Beaver
for many years. Long ago when we
wero endeavoring to promote a con-
nection with tho Santa Ft) at Gage and
tho Beaver Valley it Northweetorn
was chartered Mr. Tack was with us
and had It not been tor the money
panic whiuh tied things up just at
that time it is altogether probable
that Heaver would hare been a rail-
road town years ago. Howover that
and a dozen and one othur disappoint-
ments did not Unfile ua. Finally when
our Beaver Meade & Englowood rail
road wns promoted and every nerve
was strained and no atone left unturn
ed to bring it to completion Mr Tack
appeared on tho scene just when a
friend was needed most to tido ua over
a rough place and interested his good
friend Jacob Achcnbauh railroad build
er and financier of Hnrdtner Kansas
who watt not slow to see the advan
tages and benefits to bo gained and
advanced tho necessary money for the
completion of the road. Thus to gen-
ialJoe Tack is due much credit for
making possible tho building of the
railroad to Beaver. Every loyal citi-
zen of Beaver holds a warm spot In
thoir heart for Joe Tack and bo me of
these doyB when Ueavor geta to bo a
little larger city wo hope that Mr
Tack ami his good wlfn will corao and
live among us and help enjoy tho pros-
perity that was mado possible by him
and his friends.

CELEBRATE WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.
Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Thomas cele-
brated their thirteenth wedding anni-
versary Thursday of last woek. Mrs.
F. O Tracy successfully planned and
exocutod a surprise nn them in honor
uf tho occasion. Tho guest were
invited to tho homo of Mr. nrnl Mrs
Tracy and when all was In readiness to
recelvo them tho "victims" of tho
aurpriso appeared on tho scene In
accordance with pre-arranged plans.

entertainment. After tho chow the
guests returned to tlm Tracy home
whero they were served withadoliglit-
ful luncheon and spent the remainder
of the evening In social conversation.

WORK OF A TWISTER.
l)r. L L Long reports considerable
havoc at his farm on the North Flats
Wednesday night of last week which
was evidently tho work of n twister.
The damago occurred tho same night
that a cyolono visited Great Bond
Kansas destroying a large amount of
property and killing several peoplu
Dr. J.ong'g largo cement barn was
blown several Inches nil tho' founda-
tion to tho northeast and all the
content piers and mangers on tho Inte-
rior of the building broken. Ho esti-
mates his damago at fully 1760.03
which fortunately Is covered by insurance
FRANK PALMER ACCIDENTALLY
ED TO DEATH.
The I'ipneer residents of old Beaver
county who knew and highly esteem-
ed Frank Palmer an early-day rest-
dtnt of Beaver county then "No
Man's Land" will bo grieved to learn
otlils death .which occurred October
15th at Steamboat Springs Colorado
as tho rosult of an accident a wagon
loaded with potatoes having run over
him 'and crushed him so badly that
death resulted
Mr Palmer and an employee were
engaged In hauling potatoea from tht
former's ranch. The wagon was toad
ed with sacked potatoes and Mr. Palm-
er was driving tho team. In going
down a steep grado tho wagon struck
a rut and the driver waa thrown
beneath the wheels both wheels pass
ing over his body and crushing him so
sevorely that hu never completely ral
lied but sank slowly to his death the
following day. Tho tragedy was made
doubly sad from the fact that Mrs
Palmer and .the children had jubI
departed a fow days previous on a visit
to Ohio and although overtaken en
route by the sad news were unable to
reach home beforo their loved one
passed away.
Frank Palmer and wife lived in Bea
vor for a number of years in the early
days and are held in fond remembrance
by thoio of tho ptoncorB who still
remain. Ho was ono of our leading
citizens in those stirring times and
had much to do with tho history mhk

first postmaster commissioned hern

ty and city official as well as merchant
and town builder. After leaving Uea-
vor the family returned to their old
home In Ohio They recently moved
to Oolorado.
Tho Herald notes with sincere regret
the untimely death of our formor

old friends of 'tho family hero in
extending sympathy to the bereaved.
LOOFBOURROW TENDERED APPOINT-
MENT. Judgo It II Loofbourrow was hon-
ored tho past woek by being tendered
an appointment on the Buproma Court
Commission for the ensuing tor in
Governor Williams called him by long
distance telephone and offered him the
appolntmont but Judgo Loofbourrow
waa not In position to--acccpf uwing.fo
his practice hero and other business
which ho would not bo Justified In
giving up. Tho offer of this important
appointment by tho Governor is a
compliment to Judge .Loofbourrow'g
work while Supreme Jus tlco.
