Blaekstook's first visit to this scatlon
and he as greatly pleased with the
country. Both of the gentlemen srem-
ed mighty well pleased with their in-
vestment and well thoy may be for
their line Is tapping one of tho richest
trade territories in the Southwest and
thoy literally got It for a song. On
the other hand Beaver is fortunate in
being ablo to do business with such

At tho election of offlcors at the
recent session of tho International Dry
Farming Congress which convened In
Denver we note that W I. DrummOnd
was again re-elected as secretary of
the Board of Governors. "Pale" has
held this position for a number rf
years and he has mnde good In fact
he has just about made tho Congress
for on him devolves the greater part
or the responsibility for the success or
failure of the gigantic movement. The
Herald Is pleased to note his re-election
which is just recognition of
the valuable service he hax rendered
the causo.
ED MIDDLETON DIES SUDDENLY.
Ed MIddleton who wljl bo remem-
bered by many Beaver people having
lived here for a number of years and
being employed at the Thompson ho-
tel died suddenly at Kansas City
Missouri October 7th. At the time of
his death ho was living with his sis-
tor. Mrs. Willis Thompson atd was
employed at a restaurant. He return-
ed homo in the ovening in apparently
as-eond-health as usual but died a few
minutes later very suddenly. Thoto
who know him hero rcgrot to hear of
Ids death and extend sympathy to the
sister and other rolatlves. Ho was
burled at Kansas City.
CLASS HIGHLY ENTERTAINED.
The members of the Loyal Men and
Women class of tho Christian Blb'o
school wen highly entertained at the
homo of Mr. and Mrs. O. F Pructt
Friday evening of lost week by Mes-
dames O. F. Fruett E. L. Fickol and
A. ti. Dickson members of the class
Games and contests nf various kinds
provided entertainment for tho oven-
ing at tho close of which a most de-
lightful luncheon was served. The
hostesses proved thcmsolves oxcellent
entertainers and the evening was thor-
oughly enjoyed by all present.

CHILD DIES OF WHOOPING COUGH.
The little three-year-old ion of Mr.
and Mrs. Delva Carter of Cottonwood
died at the home of A. M. Burnam
and family in Beaver Sunday ol
whooping cough. Funeral services
were conducted at the Burnam home
Mdnday afternoon by Rev. W..M

church and Interment raado In the
Beaver cemetery.
The sympathy of a wide circle of
friends Is extended to tho sorrowing
parents in tho loss of their llttlo one.
OPERA HOUSE NEARING COMPLETION
The new opera house which is being
built by Contractor Strong for Ember-
ton & Beaty on South Douglas Is
rapidly neating completion. It ii 25
1 80 and I s boing constructed with
inclined floor and a large stago Is being
built In thecal t end. When completed
It will be an up-to-date play house and
will fill a long felt want In Beaver for
we have always been In neod of such
a structure.
URGE FEED YARD BEING BUILT.
Work was commenced the past week
on an enormous feed yard which Is
being built by Willis Jones lust north
of tho Kosher barn which Mr. Jones
Is now conducting. The new struct-
ure is beliifTbuIlt 50zU0 feet and will
Inolude barn foed yard and camp
house and whon completed will accom
modate a large traue.
NEW ELECTRIC SIGN.
The Davis Drug Company have add
ed to the attractiveness and up-to-dateness
of their new establishment
by the erection ot a large electric
"Drug" sign this week. The sign is
not only a good advertisement but an
nrnnment to the street as well. Now
that Mr Davis has set the pace we
hope that other will follow
ANOTHER GARAGE AND SALESROOM.
H. D. and H T. Pcckhara purchased
t alt on Douglas avenue north of the
Willis Jones livery this week on which
her plan to erect a GOxlOO root bullu-
'ng to lis used as a garage and tales
room. Theconstructlou will commence
next week.
BRIDGE AND DEPOT CONTRACTS LET

much experience has been secured
to do the woric and Is here ready to
oommonco work. Part ot tho brldgo
material has already arrived at Forgan
and the balance will doubtless nrrlvo
by the ttmo tho rails havo been laid to
the north bank of the river so that tho
work of putting In tho brldgo and
continuing tho track on to tho depot
and switches may continue without
delay. There teems to be every
assurance now that tho road will be
completed to tho terminal and every
thing In shape for regular tralllc both
passenger and freight even before the
time specified In tm contraot. Every-
thing Is now moving along swiftly and
satisfactorily nnd barring any unfor-
seen or unavoidable delays such as
wash-outs etc which have already
delayed the work considerably trains
will be running into Bsavor over the
Beaver Meade & Knglewood Hallway
before November 1st. Train scrvico
from the north side of the river will
commence next week.
COUNTY FAIR IN PROGRESS.
Today is the first day of the Beaver
County Fair and everything Is In
shape for three full days of the biggest
time that was ever enjoyed on a sim
tar occasion. Sports ot various kinds
havo been 11 bo rally arranged for nnd
thero will be something doing nil the
ttmo to keep the crowds entertained
The exhibits aro expected to exceed
thosodf former years by far and then
is no reason why thoy should not for
(he country Is full ot products of all
kinds and never beforo has It been
possible to make such a varied and
splendid exhibit as this year. The
Herald Is being issued early this week
so that we may on joy the fair and ftr
that reason and today being .tho ilrst
day of the Fair wu can give no further

the member ot the society together
with many invited guests enjoyed the
hospitality of these ladies and the
society on this occasion.
THE COUNTY SUNDAY SCHOOL CONVEN
TION.
The County Sunday School Conven-
tion which was held at Forgan Wed-
nesday and Thursday of last week is
reported by thoso who were In attend-
ance as having been a very Interesting
and prolltablo session. The attend-
ance was not as largo as In former
years probably due to the busy sea-
son but a goodly number of tho loyal
workers wero there and dorlved much
benefit from tho meeting.

This is fair week at Beaver and In
accordanoo to an urgent request tho
Llboral team goes to play a series for

west Fair and tho Beavor team suc-
ceeded In capturing.
The plans are being made to haven
long train of outos of Liberal people
visit Beayor on Friday which It Is
thought will bo tho big day of the
fair and that will prove so it there Is
a good sized delegation of Liberal
