SERIOUS AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT.
What was scarcely less than mlraau-
lous occurred Sunday nftcrnoon when
the occupants of Jas It. Crabtreo's
nutomobllc escaped death when the
machine turned turtle while going nt a
speed of 20 mllos an hour. Mr. Crab-
trri' who was driving tho car was
pretty seriously hurt but his injuries
nre not thought to bo fatal. At this
time he Is resting easily at the homo of
hi son A. J. Cmlitree and reports
from lilin aro-most "encouraging. Miss
Pansy Hertford niece of Mrs. A J
Crabtree and who Is visiting here from
Missouri wasnn occupant of tlicrar nt
the time of tho accident She sustain-
d seveto Injuries to the left limb the
muscles of the. lower limb being turn
and badly bruised. She nlso received
a bad sprain of the left wrist nnd a
torero norioui shock and shaking up
from the fall. Her injuries while
extremely painful are) not considered
serious and she Is improving nicely at
this time. A J Crabtree and his littla
daughter Uuby. the other occupants
of tlin car escaped with only minor
bruises end the only effects they pre
feeling of the unpleasant occurrence is
a stiffness nnd soreness as n result of
the fall
Thu parly hud started out shortly
niter dinner Sundny for n pleasure
ride Intending to go out in the vicinity
of Hnlko and Gray. The roads wore
particularly good when they n on red
Balko so Mr. Crabtree speeded up n
bit. His sou warned him that tht-y
wero going n little too fast for comfort
nnd snfety but tho good roads were too
great n temptation and they continued
on nt nbout 25 miles nn hour.- Andy
feared trouble nnd wan prepHred to
jump on a moment's notice. When
they reached n point n mile nortli nnd
a quarter east of Balko ingoing down
a slight incline which was particularly
smooth and added to tho speed of the
car they encountered n turn in the
road. Tho car was going too faU to
make tho turii Mid the bark wheels
skidded into a rut. Instead of turning
the front wheels in the direction in
which the car was ikldding they went
turned in tlio opposite dirretlon unci
the car turned turtle turning com-
pletely ovur once nnd half again and
dually landing on its side. Andy was
riding on the back sent nnd jumped nt
the II rut iiaientlon of trouble. Ho
landed on his hands nnd knees and by
quick work just managed to get out of
reacli of the cur when it came over.
Going to the rescuo of the rest he
found Miss Pansy who had been riding
in the front teat pinned beneath thu
back wheel. With the strength possi
ble only under such circumstances he
managed to lift he car off of her and
she quickly regained consciousness
He then went-to his father who was
Ijlnghalt in and half out of the car
nnd bleeding profusely at the mouth
nnd note audi ns ho feared In a dying
condition.- He managed to get him
nut of the car and laid him down on
the ground nnd then went to rescue
Uuby. The little utfl was found lying
In the back seat breathless but with
only slight injuries. A few raps in
the buck restored her.
Protecting his father with n tarpau-
lin which thuy happened to have along
Andy made his way to the nearest
phono which wns a half mile away and
summoned Dr. Long from Heaver.
Returning to the car lie found n crowd
gathered who hnd heard thu news
over the party line. Nurse Tomlin
came from Balko and gave emergency
treatment to the injured man. Tho
two girls wcro taken In a car and
driven to tlio Crabtree home (lye inik'B
west of Heaver and Dr. Munsell sum-
moned there to nttecd the Injuries of
Mils Pansy.
l)r Long arrived nt the soeno of tho
accident making the run of 21 miles In
just 45 minute) which wo claim Is -'go-Ing-some."
It wbb found that Mr.
Crabtree wns able to make the trip
home and a bed was Improvised across
the rear teat of the doctor's car. He
stood the trip well and upon thorough
examination after the arrival at home
his injuries were found to bo less ser-
ious than at first feared.
This accident Is the most serious of
this nature which has happened since
the auto made Its advent In this sec-
tion. Several less critical irrcoki have
been encountered Mr Crabtree hln-
self being thu victim of an accident
some time ngo in which his car was
badly damaged but from which he
escaped unhurt but nils' is the 'first
real disaster and It certainly should
be a warning to nil drivers of cars to
exercise greater care. In future Even
the itioit cautious drivers will it
seems at times become Just a bit
reckless and it takes just such a de-
plorable circumitance"nB tho one just
recorded to wake us up to the realiza
tion uf Ihp danger.
We nro Indeed glad to be nble to
report the condition of thi victims of
this calamity ns well as what they aro.
It might easily hnve been far mote
gravn That they escaped Instant
death Is the wonder of ft nil.
ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED HOME:---

troubled with his stomach for many

due to the untiring energy and hard
labor of Mr and Mrs. Campbell who

privations and spending many many
days of toil in bringing nhuut their

Mr. Campbell was a good kind and
generous neighbor eyur ready to lend

and what higher tribute could be paid
to hi- memory than t.o say that he was
a loyal and devoted husband n kind
and Indulgent father and a truo and

wns all uf this fur he was a man in the
fullest sense of tho word and a Christian

llto was that which stooped to help
those about him. Ills rule of faith and
praot'ee was to live uprightly and hon-
orably every day nnd there are none to
