A number of peoplo nre wondering
why some arrests were not made In
Beaver Sunday for drunkenness. Per-
haps the arrest was ovor looked for
fear of embarrassing the "ofllclal organ
of the deinocratlo administration."
Why not treat 'em all alike?

last week when he was arrested on a
charge of transporting liquor for Il
legal purposes was released on bond

the next term of the county court.
Miss Ruth Weir completed a nviit
successful term of soliool in the Wool.
try district Friday. Owing to the fall-
ure of the residents of that district to
vote an additional levy for school pur-
poses the term was shortened much to
the regret of a great many of the pa-
trons. Miss Ruth is one of Beaver
county's best teachers and hpr work in
the school she has just closed lias been
higlily satisfactory. She taught the
same school last year.

THE ROUTE OF THE WATER SYSTEM.
The leading question being aikrd by
a great number of the people of Beaver
since the commencement of work nn
the waterworks and electric light sys-
tems has been "Where will tho mains
run !" From tho information we have
at hojid we believe we are nble to map
out the. routo correctly for our readers.
Inasmuch as a great many Beaver peo-
ple are not familiar with the location
and names of the various streets and
avenues wo hive tried to make our
'xplanatlon of the routp of tho sys-
tems more plain by stating the loca-
tion in many Instances In respect to
the residences and churches along the
war.
The supply of water will be furnish-
ed by an Immense well which is being
put down on tho west side of Elbert
Olift's land about a quarter mllo
northeast of the Beaver bridge. The
main line will run on a direat line from
the well to an intersection of Douglas
avenue abnut midway between the
bridge and the Thompson hotel thence
south on Douglas avenue to 7th street
being tho corner Just bouIIi of W W.
Knowles' cement house on tho G. V.
Parker site Here the main will turn
west running past tlio High School and
to tlio water tower about 1XJ0 feet
northwest of tho high school building.
Tho first connecting main leading to
the west side of town commences at
the White House hotel corner and runs
west on 1st street tn the J. D. Nlles
corner thence south past W. T.
Qulnns' and J O. Miles' residences
and the Grado School to the north cor
tier of U. J. Chllc"ott's property thence
west to J M. Jones' corner thence
south toE L. Fickel's corner thence
past to thu F. M. English corner. Here
it connects with n main which runs
west from Douglas avenue on 2d street
helng the Court Houso street and
turns south nt tho Methodist church
corner running south past tho O D
Smith It. H Loofbourruw and Elbert
Clift properties and the Central tele-
phono ofllcn and on out that street
south-past J. W. Ss.vage'flfconnec.tlng
witti the main line from Douglas ave-
nue at T. O. Braid wood's corner.
On the east side of town the first
main commences at tho Peckhain liv-
ery and runs east on 1st street past
Mrs. Ellen Maples' property and on
out that street to the corner of 1st
street and DelTenlmugh avenue thence
south on Deffeulm.igh past P. L. Thom
as' property connecting at the corner
of that block with n m&in running east
on ltd street from the corner of 3d
street and Douglas avenue being the
Beavor Hardware fc Furniture Com-
pany corner past Orossleys' garage
the Blauchurd property and W. F
Carsnn home to tho corner opposite
tho John Mitchell ''little pink house"
on Lane avenue thence smith past Bay
Barnes' property to the corner of fith
street and Lane nvenue thence west
past 11 II Hanson's H. N. Lawson's
and II. I). Prck'ham's properties to the
corner of Dili street and Stomi avenue
turning south at the J.. W. Webb cor-
ner and running pat the Christian
church J. II. Crabtree's H. M. Bu-
lick's and B. P. RuBsell's to 7th street
aud Stone avenue thence west con-
necting with the main linsof Douglas
avenue.
The exact route of the electrlat light
system has not yet been determined
upon. That is tho location of all the
arc lights has not been fixed There
will be an arc light in the center of
the street at each block on Douglas
avenue from tlio Thompson hotel to
Cth street being the corner at W. W.
Murray's residence Thoro will also
be lights at three corners of the Court
Houbu Squaro one nt the Methodist
church corner ono ut the Lawson Ab-
stract ofllce corner and one at the
Presbyterian church corner. On tho
east side ol town there will be a light
at the corner near tho Frank Laughrin
home aud nnother near the Christian
church ntjhe line whero Beaver and
South Beaver townsltes merge. Lights
In other jiarts of town may bo added
before tho system is completed but at
this time only these lights have besn
located.
Under the present arrangement
lights and water are distributed about
equally in all parts of town. The lo
cation of fire plugs so that protection
would be alTurded residents In every
section has had more to dn with deter-
mining the location of mains than tho
ailording of water for domestic pur
poses in tlio residence sections for
this reason the mains traverse some
streets where there are very fow resi-
dences missing others more largely
built up out it lias neen found neces-
sary to do this lu order to place fire
plugs within equal dUtance to all
It is regrettable that mains could
not have been laid on all the streets so
that residents would have only been
put to tho expense of piping the water
In from the curb but suoh a system at
this time is out of the question. Those
who happen to resida on a street whero
the mains will be laid are fortunate
while those who will be compelled to
pipe the water some distance-will just
have to look pleasant and "grin and
bear It." The editor of the Hehai.I)
happens to be one ot the latter and It
will be necessary for us to pipe some
250 feet to get city water Intoour home.
We don't like the looks of an ugly old
ditch being dug In front of our prem-
ises anyway. Might as well take that
view of it.
"YAG" WILLIAMS COMES TO LIGHT.
Geo. W. Williams erstwhile editor
of the LaKemp Mirror promoter of
Weldon townaite near Lorena a gen-
eral all-around "vag" who has drifted
from Canada to South Amerlaa leaving
boiling him a trail of bad debts crook-
ed dealing debauchery and drunken
carousals attempted to take a whack
at th& Hiralii last week tn connection
with fhe county printing affair. That
Ilia aqtion of McLain and Itutledge In
the matter Is sanctioned by such dis-
reputables as this renegade is siilll-
cient proof to all who know Williams
that th.e deal was rotten else It would
not bear his stamp of approval.
Wo -might add that the Interest Wil-
liams is taking in this- matter Is prob-
ably due to the fact that he will be
compelled to pay same $250 00 delin-
quent taxes for tho year 1014 or lose
his Weldon townslto on account of the
HeaAf-D compelling County Treasurer
Fryslngor to publish the delinquent
tax list this year as required by law.
What a fluo specimen Indeed to dis-
cuss county affairs.
A man of Williams' caliber is so far
beneath the notice of self-respecting
people that we would not inflict fur-
ther mention of his name upon our
readers nor deign to reply to his filth
A TAXPAYER'S YIEW OF THE COUNTY
PRINTING DEAL.
ElMlf ItKAVRH HfKAI-U:
Will you allow space in your columns
for a further thought in regard to the
"Donation" of tho $800.00. which the
"Democratic Administration" of Bea
ver county have made (or proposed to
make) to the people of their county?
I say "donation" for surely an lion
est democrat could not think of taking
money that Is not fully naturalized In
the democratic party aud use it to
such a selfish purpose as to deliberate-
ly undertake to set a hitherto unpro-
tending county newspaper upon its
feet hoad and shoulders above others
as the "Ofllolal Organ or the Demo-
cratic Administration" without the
money was truly and purely democra-
tic. So I say if the proposition is
honost and the attempt has been made
to jrploita newspaper purely because it
is demoaratla then the money used to
that purpose must of necessity bo dem
ocratic also therefore a donation from
the democratic administration. Wheth
It be democratic or republican money
It must bo looked upon as the same
In either cast.
Again we would say it would look
strange wouldn't it if one would "at-
tempt to unduly influence" ths pro-
gram of the democratic administration
in Beaver county to the extent of try
ing to sava the last named institution
in taxes In the sum of $800 007
No the only fault we can see with
the Herald Is that they wero able to
see the administration needs and will-
ing to sharo In the USUAL casualities
of the circumstances.
If tho people have beon so negligent
as to forget the past we think that
tho voters of Beaver county will not
soon forget the attempt at style in us.
cending (7) to such heights and by such
means. A PALTRY LITTLE BUM
OF EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS
and this may not yet be the limit.
Flattering Indeed of the ability of tho
taxpayer.
We regrot that this must have oc-
curred with the "damocratlo adminls
tration" and not the Herald for seeing
the need under the nlrcumstancis and
doing their part to cause the thing to
hit the ground as light as possible.
Sincerely yours
II. E. Bartholomew.
