Dr. and Mrs. L. L Long returned
Friday from Guthrie and Oklahoma
Cltv. At Guthrie they attended the
Masonic Consistory meeting with
man lodge friends nnd enjoying a
good time in general. By tho way Dt.
Long has recently advanced to the rank
of Knights Templar being the only
Maoti of that degree In this section.
The fact may be known by the hand-
some watch fob emblematic of that dis-
tinction which the doctor Is wearing
and also by the partlculirly fine uni-
form which he Is now entitled to wear
as a Knights Templar on all lodge oc-
casions Enroutc. home Dr and Mrs.
Long stuppnJ over nt Oklahoma City.
They went out to see little Hale Loof-
bourrow who Is recovering from a five-
story fall recently and they report
him as getting along splendidly Tlfo
continued good news of Hale's im
provement i received with sincere
gladness by Beaver friends of the fam
ily. r
In a recent Issnoof the Forgan En-
terprise Editor Tookor says that he Js
not "belly-aching" because he lost out
In the colinty printing mntter My
goodness gracious 1 What has become
of Tooker's modestv? A few yearn ngo
ho would have said he was not "waist-
aching " We are fully aware that he
Is not worrying bcca.me he "lost out "
WHY? Because ho didn't lose out
Such n rank deal as that combination
pulled pit Is plain enough for even a
blind person to see through clearly.
If Tooker wns not in on the deal and It
was not all previously arranged that
regardless n'f any offer which might be
made by the Hkrald to do the work
that the LaKemp Mirror would be
awarded the contracts and Tooker
share in the prollts why was he not on
band to make an effort to secure at
least n part of the printing? The fact
that he stayed away until the olilcial
paper was designated aud never ;.ade
an effort to secure tne work is evidence
enough for must people that the whole
thing was previously cut and dried
When did Tooker uver neglect to go
after any county work In sight before?
Isn't It a bit strange that just at this
particular time tlmt he didn't even
make an ffurt to sreure the printing?
Oh nal There wasn't at) thing crook-
ed or r tten about that printing con-
tract . All who olleve there wasn't
stand on your heads.

APPEAL FROM ACTION OF MC LAIN
AND RUTLEDGE.
During the past week several peti-
tions from dliferent parts of the county
havo been filed with County Attorney
Twyford asking him to nppeal from
th notion of McLaln nnd Rutledge in
designating the LaKemp Mirror as tho
olllclal county paper and awarding the
contract for job printing to that paper.
It seems that thw people all over the
county have become aroused over the
awarding of this work ton remote lit-
tle 2xi paper which Is senrcelr known
outside of tho community In which It
is published when nn oiler wax made
by n recognized tgal paper of general
circulation to do the work at approxi-
mately $800 00 cheaper than It will cost
tho county under the contract made
by Mf Lain nnd Rutledge nnd although
the law only requires tho petition of
set en taxpayers to appeal from nny
action of tho Buard of County Commis-
sioners yet tho petitions in this case
wore signed by about fifty men who
would like to know why It Is not the
business of all the members of the
Board of County Commissioners to
iran-uct the limitless of the county in
the most economical manner.
McLaln and Rutledge absolutely re-
fused to consider thu oiler of the Her-
aid to do the work at a saving of
800.00 to the taxpayers although Com-
missioner Criswetl urged that the oiler
be.ncccpted because he knew it to be
the'Jowest and best offer and he felt
that he had been elected to look after
the Interest of the county
Tho appeal will be heard in district
court at which time it will be deter-
mined whether or not McLaln and
Rutledge have the authority to need-
lessly expend $800.00 of the county's
money. It is all rlrfht to establish a
democratic newspaper at tho county
seat but the county shauld not be call-
ed upon to pay the bill If "Mose"
and his followers fail in this attempt
to support their ' party organ" at the
expense of the cgunty we suggest that
they appljrto'-thu legislature now" In
session and hnve n law pns-ed provid-
ing for its support.

IMPROVEMENTS AT COURT HOUSE.
Carpenter J. 11. MoBrlde is making
soiiio Improvements at the Court house
this week A doorway has been cut
connecting the olllccs of County Judge
Spohn and Court Clerk DeGraw.
These rooms are those formerly occu-
pied by District Clerk Pruett and
County Superintendent Fellow Judgo
Spohn now has the County Superinten-
dent's former ofllce nnd Court Clerk
DeOraw Is occupying tho former quar-
ters of the District Clerk A doorway
Is also being cut out connecting the
offices of Register of Deeds and County
Surveyor. These rooms will bo occu-
pied by County Olerk Bullck who is
also ex-ofllclo Register of Deeds. The
now Improvements add greatly to the
appearance and ccnveulenco of the
nlllces.
Somo noted Improvements have nlso
been made in the cilice formerly occu-
pied by the County Judge cut Which Is
now the homo of County Seperlnteti-
deht Fellow. Prof Fellow has his new
quarters splendidly arranged and It
presents a very neat and homelike ap-
pearance. In addition to the splendid
library owned by Prof Fellow the W.
0. T. U. Library the founding or which
and Its successful operation Is duo to
the untiring energy of Mrs Fellow
has been removed from the G A. R
hall and together with the former
books placed in the alcove opening
Into the county superintendent's ofllce.
This arrangement gives the public ac.
cess to an excellent line of books and
other literature and was a most gener-
ous and thoughtful act on tho part of
County Superintendent and Mrs. Fel-
low. Children's Coughs Children's

Uucklen's Arnica Salve for Sorss.
It is rumored that the LaKemp Mir-
ror moved to Beaver Monday and lo-
cated In Sheriff Jones' building form-
erly ormipled by the Joe Meese bakery .
Wo extend our sincere sympathy to
the people or tho LaKemp vicinity tn
their great (?) loss. We have mad
diligent Inquiry and investigation to
substantiate the rumor but up to data
have not been able to locate anything;
that looked like a printing ofllce to us.
We did dlsoovar a few cases of old
type and a second. hand job press
dumped over in the bakery building
on the corner and saw Editor Tooker
of the Forgan Enterprise In that vi-
cinity quite frequently. We presume
Tooker will bring over seme surplus
Junk from his shop at Forgan and thus
"the official (?) paper of Beaver coun-
ty" will be established. Both the For-
gan Enterprise and the LaKemp Mir.
ror have never had anything good to
say for Beaver or her citizens but in-
stead have never missed an opportu
nity to make slurring vicious and un-
truthful statements to the Injury of
the town and her people Now they
seem perfectly willing to become Iden
tified tvlth old Beaver as disreputable
and "Ring" ruled as they would here
tofore have had tho people belter.
They no doubt will expeot to be receiv-
ed with open arms too and have the
business people of Beaver fall all over
themselves to patronize them. It takes
a lot of nerve to lie about a town and
run down its business interests and
then ooms nnd expect to receive the
town's support. The amalgamated
"LaKemp-Mirror-Forgan-Enterprise"
may get the support of the business
men of Beaver but It won't be becaui
they deserve It. they don't deserve a
red cent not even n pleasant look so
far as Beaver Is concerned.
