GRADE BEING RAPIDLY THROWN UP
Fifty Teams and Plenty of Hands to Man
the Machinery at Work
Everybody Enthusiastic and Boosting
The second week of workun Beaver's
railway grade to tne north finds con
stvuction in full sway and the work
going along at a clip which even the
most enthusiastic ptimist did not ven-
ture to hope for at the outset.
Tho first week's work progressed
rapidly and a good showing was made
hut a full force could not bo put on the
Job owing to the non-arrival of ma-
chinery. Tliis weok many more scrap-
ers Freenos and wheelers were avail-
able and more teams could be put to
work and the grade work is now going
along full blast.
Fifty teams nre at work now on the
biggest pieco of work of the entire job
and Saturday night will see this fill
well up and from there on out it Mill
be easy sailing. If the weather con-
tinurs favorable about ten weeks is
going to find tho grade all complete
and ready for tho steel.
Tho cMzt-ns of Beaver wero called
upon tills week for money witlt which
to keep up expenses of the men and
teams at work and responded liberally
with about $3010.00 If more money
is needed it will be forthcoming. Ev-
erybody is going into this proposition
in a business-like way and expect to
see It through. 1 his is not only true
of tho peoplo of Beavor who aro sub-
scribing money but is Just as true of
the farmers in tho country who will be
benefitted by the road. They are sub-
scribing labjr and are coming in with
their teams and taking hold of tho
project in a way which proves that
they arc interested and roalizo the
benefits which they will derive from

tho road in that it will bring them a
nearer and better market nnd increase
the value of their farmi from 10091 to
uOD6. to say nothing of tho conven-
ience and many other benefits which
they will derive.
The building of the road just at this
time is still another great advantage
and benefit to the farmers. They hrve
no feed for their teams either rough-
ness or grain and many arc unable to
buy. By naming In and working on
the grade they have their teams well
fed and grained and when ti;..o comes
for spring work tliey will bo in better
shape to go into tho fields than if they
had wintered on pasture only and
that very poor in somo instances
which would leave them soft and in
poor shape for work. Right at this
time there are several teams owned
by parties in Kansas whom the rail-
road will nnt-benellt In the least nt
work on tho grade. Tho men came
down and were anxious to contract for
work bocaoso they felt they would
rather have their teams on this work
and being wol! fed than idlo on pas-
ture and un.H for sarins? work and
at the same time be earning reasona-
ble wages in cash and a good block of
stock in the new road.
Wo indeed feel gratified that every-
body is taking hold of things like they
aro and we trust there will be no end
to the good work. We can't afford to
let this golden opportunity slip by
now that it is within our roach. For
once all are pulling together. Let us
stay on the job and see it though.

A unique social function was given
at the M. E. church Friday ovening
by the members of the Epworth League
which was called "The Bird's Grand
Get Together" and as the name im-
plies the entertainment feature of tho
evening was carried out along this line.
The walls were decorated with draw
ings of various kinds ct birds and ss
each guest arrived they were given a
card on which appeared tho pictue
and name of a bird. They found tlioir
mates by locating a bird of the same
strain. Bird games wore also a feature
as well as other amusing stunts along
the same order. Refreshments o f
noodles (worms) were sorved
All present spent a mi.st pleasant
evening and the admission fee of 10
cents netted the society a neat bum.

The sl.rtt luia of railroad from Bea-
ver to Korean seems to be n sure go
now. The survey has been made ond
they are Hitually at work on tho road
bed. The work is being done by the
fa 'mors mostly for which they re-
Cflvi. $2 00 per day In cash and $1.00
i-H'i. in the road. Tills line of road
will be a great benefit to the farmers
on the south Hats as it will cut out all
the bad roads uetweem them and their
markets. It is not likely that the ter-
minus of tho road will remain nt Bea-
ter for a very long tlmo. Ivanhoe
News.
Braver Gets Road Sbfik.
Beaver now feels suro of its long
hoped for railroad ; a stub line to For-
gin. Beaver has put up a long plucky
fight for a road and we aro glad to bee
them win. Considering the Bhort dis-
tance tho cost will be large owing to
bridging and getting a roadbed north
of town.
Some money is yet to bo raised and
thn peoplo south of Beaver should ac-
cept somo of the responsibility as tho
road is greatly to tlioir convenience
and might some dav push on south
into Texas for a southern connection.

Tho Beaver HenALo of last week
had an extended articlo relative
to tho construction of n line of railroad
from at or near Forgan to Beaver City.
Tho Hkrald appears to think that tho
road is a sure go and that it will bo
constructed In timo to move this sea
sons wheat and other crops. That
would boa grand thing for the roiin-
try south of the Beavor river.

Why! What's the Alatter
with Forgan?
It is nows to us that Forgan content-
plated building n rnilrord but judg-
ing by this week's Enterprise one
would JuJgn this to be the case and
that the editor of that paper advises
hor citizens not to do it.
It seems that a Forgan "business man"
named "Dear Friend" "requested" a
letter from a man named "MoMurtry."
concerning railroad building nnd
"Dear Friends" request wns granted
In a column letter which tho Enter-
prise publishes and comments upon as
the horrible experiences of peoplo at-
tempting tc build railroads
Commenting on the letter the edi-
tor states that it show "tho utter fail
ure oftn attempt to build a railroad
by a company of citizens."
The letter itself advises tho Forgan
"business man" that "it would liaro
been far cheaper to have moved their
belongings to tho road already built"
and closes by saying "so if you boys
aro wise remember the above and
keep out of any scheme to build a
shore lino of railroad."
The two last paragraphs is the text
of the whole letter boiled down. In-
terpreted they mean just this; don't
attempt to build a railroad but move
i to Forgan
Monday of this wook and will b
pushed to n finish. Beaver County
Republican (Gray.)
BfiAvrn Starts Work on ins Srt'it
Railroad.
After n year of planning nnd hard
work the Commercial Club of Denver
has perfected the plans and arrange-
ments whereby the construction of n
spur railroad from Beaver north to a
point of connection with tho Wichita
Falls and Northwestern Railway is to
bo constructed.
On last Monday tho surveyors start-
ed out of Beaver and will finish the
surrey on Thursday. The grading Is
to begin at once under the supervision
of Mr. Frank Thompson nnd father.
We understand that any person thnt
will furnish a team will bo paid $3.00 a
day cash and $2 00 a dny in stock in
the road. In consideration of the
scarcity of feed for horses It appears to
us that this Is a protty good chance
out of tho troublo for n lot of farmers.
If a large number of the boy would
turn out and put their teams on the
Job the grade could be finished befnro
they would have to get in their llehls
nnd they could have their tenuis feed
through until thn spring pasture cornea
We further understand that the ties
and rails are already bought nnd paid
for nnil that they have over $3030.00
In cash to start the work with all of
which looks like businoss.
We hope that the project goes
through successfully. It will bo a fine
thing for the people on the south Hats
since It will put the road eight miles
closer and cuts off about ull the real
bad roads saving the pull over those
wretched sand hills La Kemp Mir-
ror. Mucli ado about Beavor's railroad
continues. "There's many a slip twlxt
tho oup and the lip." -Extract from
Forgan Enterprise-
True enough I Forgan will no doubt
realize the force of this statement lat-
er nn. They will wako up and roalize
TIIBY are tho "slip" twlxt tho "cup"
(tfcaver) and the "lip" (th Inter-
section of tho XV. F. & N. XV. and the
Stub line.)
.
It Is possible that Forgan contem
plated building a railroad but we
doubt it. It is more probable that
Forgan is really beginning to wnko up
to tho fact thus tho town of Beaver
and the farmers south of tho river are
building a railroad and that "busi-
ness man" of Forgan "requested" that
lettor for tho purpose of attempting to
discourage this construction
If that Forgan "business man"
whose namo appears only as "Dear
Friend" is really so sollcitious for the
welfare of the people over this way as
to request this advice for us unsolic-
ited perhaps if he knew what some of
our people down hero know he would
then know that wo know somo things
In connection with this Beavor rail-
road that somo other people don't
know. What do you know about that?
