Three Feet of Snow!
Ono of tho biggest snows that over
visited this section fell Monday night
Tuesday Tuesday night and ceased
a llttlo before noon Wednesday cover-
ing the ground to a depth of thirty-live
Inches on tho level as reported by W.
C. Frarer who keeps tho Ooreriimonl
weather record and who had it oaro-
fully measured in spot where there
was little or no chanco for it drifting. (
Mr. I rarer also estimated tho water
precipitation In tho snow was three
and three-quarter Inches; and we are
satisfied it was all of that for the snow
during tho first 21 hours of tho fall was
extremely wet. Tuesday night and
Wednesday morning thero was enough
wind to make drifts fivo to six feet
deep. All traffic was suspended ; tele-
phone wires down and mall eorvice
abandoned. A similar snow fell here
nino years ago. Once every nlno or
ten years Is a plenty too for us.
The snow was not accompanied by a
cold wave and asldo from tho discom-
forts of travel Its effects will not be
felt except In tho bountiful wheat
harvest which all this molsturo prac-
tically Insures. The snow is worth
many thousands of dollars to Beaver
County farmers. A large acreage of
wheat is out aud.thosir who have It
arc' jubilant over their brilliant pros-
pects. Lightening Kills Few.
In 1000 lightning killed only 109 peo-
ple In this whole country. One's
chances of death by lightning aro less
than two in a million. Tho chanco of
death from liver kidney or stomach
trouble is vastly grcator but not If
Eleatrlo Bitters bo used a Robert
Madsen.of West Burlington Ik. prov-
ed. Four doctors gavo him up after
eight months of sufforing from viru-
lent liver trouble and yellow Jaun-
dice. Hu was then completely cured
by Electric Bitters. They're tho best
stomach liver nerve and kidney rem-
edy and blood purifier on earth. Only

a sovoral weeks' visit with his brothor

poorer than when ho left here becom-
ing worse until ho was taken to Kan-
sas City in hopes of receiving different
treatment being now under tho con-
stant care of a trained nurse. The old
timers here who new Wallaco will
hope to hear of a speedy chango for
tho better In his condition. Guymon

Regarding High Taxes.
"Tim way tho Beaver Herald throws
mud In its own face Is like a child cry-
ing as It stands on Its own toe. The
editor harps about high taxes and In
the snmo breath that she lnmbasta tho
tato administration sho pats tho
county officials on tho back saying "our
county government Is on a good solid
foJndation and is being run economi
cally to tho interest of tho taxpayers."
Why didn't she tell some truth about
tho mattsr and add "to tho Interest of
Maudu O. Thomas?" But that Is not
her purpose. Her purposo is lu delude
tho farmers and taxpnycrs into believ-
ing that tho state officials aro all to
blame the county not at all." Took-
or's Pamphlet.
For tho sako of argument it l In-
deed surprising just how llttlo rente
aud judgment some writers will use In
trying to make Ihelr readors lielicre
white Is black and black is no color at
all. Tho above extract from a long
article In last week's 1'amphlot pub-
li'hfd by L. it. Tooker Is a fair exam-
ple of his judgment and knowlcdgo of
thu real question of taxes. But thon
wo realize the poor boy has a hard row
to hoe for while ho Is trying his host
to proclaim the fact that taxes aro low.
the taxpayers' are dally receiving mi-re
convincing argument mat taxes arr.
high higher than was ever known In
Oklahoma when they como In to pay
those taxes and find thorn all tho way
from ono-thlrd to one-half higher this
year than they worn previous years on
the same property
We did say and we repeat with em-
phasis that our county government is
on a good solid foundation and Is being
run economically to tho Interest of tho
taxpayers. We hardly thought It nec-
essary to add "to tho lutorest of Maude
O. Thomas" for wo felt that wo went
gonerally know as n taxpayer and citi-
zen of Beaver county and benefited In
general like all other taxpnycrs of tho
county.
Brother Tooker Is off on tho wrong
foot again If he becks to condemn our
county officials and lay the blame at
their door for the exorbitant taxes
Because ho says sen not conclusive
evidence. Why don't" you tell Us" where-
in they aro to blame? Where havo they
been tixtravagaut or point out some
graft to us if you can?
Not all tho county officers aro re-
publicans but wo nro willing to give
the whole bunch credit democrats
and republicans alike for conducting
tho affairs of the county honestlv and
as economically ns good government
will warrant. Tho Hciur.uis very well
pleased with tho present reglmo of
county officials and Beaver county will
Indeed bo blest If wo always havo our
public offices filled with as honorable
ablo and broad-minded sot of men.
It Is true that the groat bulk of the
taxes aro for county township and
school purposes but who mado the
lovy? The county excise board pro-
vided for all that was needed and taxes
under tliolr levies would not have been
at all burdensome but along comes
the State Board aud boosts tho amount
up from W per cent to 31S per cent
orders it slapped on the tax rolls and
tho taxpayers aro oxpecccd to issuo no
protest because the; great part of t txes
go to tho schools. They levied what
they needed and could afford for school
purposes and whero is tho souse in bur
dening tho taxpayers tills year of all
years when crops woro particularly
short and money hard to get to plla up
enough school money for this year
next year and perhaps tho next One
year at a time is a plenty in this tax
proposition. "Sufficient unto tho day
Is tho evil thereof"
Tho truth of the matter Is just this
in order to conceal their own extrava
gance and graft tho state board forced
the taxes clear out of sight for all pur-
poses then sought to hide behind the
flimsy argument that only a small part
of the tax was for state purposes Sup-
pose It is didn't they make tho levy
on tho whole business and raise the
county and school tax far beyond what
wa needed? Thoy had to do it in or
der to make the state tax sufficient to
cover the extravagance of tho past and
present administrations Evory cent
needed for county and school nurnoios
could havo been raised without one
cent additional levy than that provided I
