Old Pioneer Passes Away."
Word vfas received hero last Monday
that Uncle Jake Thomas w ho had cone
to the hospital at Wichita for au.oper
ation was dead. Mr. Thomas had been
in poor health for some tlmo .and ho
went to the hospital in tho hope that
ho might obtain some relief but ho was
unable to withstand the operation and
never recovered from it.
Jacob Thomas was born in Draki
county O. Dec. I2th 1835 nmldloj at
Wichita Juno PJ 1M1 aged 70 and
six months. His early llfo was spent
In and near Arcanum O. He was mar
ried in June' 1858 to Mary S Smith
To this union three sons were horn of
wnom two uieu in infancy. The wife
and ono son Herbert Lee. survive to
mourn their loss. In 1861 Mr. Thomas
romoved with his family to Missouri
and in 1S87 he went to Beaver City
Okla. wjiero he was-engaged in the
drug business till ISO I when he remov
ed to Woodward whero ho was promi-
nent in business life till about two
years ago whon ho retired from active
work
Mr. Thomas was an active ami re-
spected member of tho Knights of
Pythias and Odd Fellow lodges and by
his exemplary life and upright dealing
he won a host of friends who will over
remomber liiui as always ready to ex-
tend n helping hand to his fellows.
Funeral services wero conducted at
the residence Wednesday afternoon by
Rev. G D Hcnsell after which tho
uody was laid to rest in the Woodward

floral offerings from tho lodges and a
