Roosevelt in West '
Theodore Roosevelt is cuttinga wiilo
swath in his trip through tho West.
Everywhere he is being accorded tho
heartiest walcoinc to which ho re
sponds in true western stylo. This is
how he sums up Americans generally:
' I think a good man nnd a good wo
man can get to heaven In a dozen dif
ferent ways but I do not think they
can get there unless thoy aro good."
Iho only motto for Americans
should be "all men up and not somo
men down. "
"Wo hear a man tell his wife that
she does not do as his mother did but
that man is frequently a man who does
not do tho way his fathor ought to
have done."
. "I Will never go with tho type of
farmer who says: I am down on law-
yers and bankers; I am ogainBt tho
business man.' I will go with him
when ho says: 'I am against & Dad
typo of Jawyer or abuf type "of
banker.' "
"Sometimes wo hear a man say he
is tho poor man's friond. I am tho
poor man's friend ir tho poor man Is
straight nnd I am the rich mark's
friend if tho rich man is straight but
I am against tho crooked man rich
or poor"
