on Sand creek Bud Hodges went to
Charlcd Ragsdale's house to get Ills
boys to work for him In harvpst. The
family had goi.o to bed nnd Hodges
wose voice was somewhat hoarso from
a severe cold went up to tho house
and without making himself known
gnve a tremendous rap on the door and
shouted "Get up or I'll tear tho roof
off of tho house." Ragsdalc naturally
thinking the party meant some harm
took down the gun and loaded both
barrels fired one of them off through
tho sido of tho house at a safe distance
from tho door thinking to scare
the visitor awny but stood ready to
use the other barrel if necessary.
HodgcB at once ran from tho house
hollowing Hagsualo what do you
mean ; I mean no harm but wanted to
.see about hiring your boys to work in

satisfactory explanations made by both
parties and what might have been n
terrible affair ended without harm to

Whoever the guilty party may be no

known for certain about it Someone
in Oklahoma instigated by tho Kvil
One sent n copy of the Beaver I1kiuu
to this plnce. There wns no particular
harm in thnt but it contained a col-
umn of country correspondence nbout
the matrimonial sentiments of ccr'nfn
bachelors living in a locality known to
tho vr!tor;of thCnrtlole ns Cottonwood
and it is tills article thnt ns stirred
up tho unmarried female portion of
tliis community as it was mvur stirred
before. This paper fell into the hands
of mi unmarried young lady nnd the
train started. Of courso she showed the
paper with the chance of your life-
time article in it to other girls nnd
the entire female outfit of this town
Irrespective of nge color or previous
condition of boiulnge is nt this present
time talking Oklahoma.
Now its unmarried females Is this
town's long suit nnd n dozen or tuo
could be spared and ro remonstrance
made In some cases the men folks
would give boot There is no doubt
the Cottonwood bachelors could get
any number of proposals off-hand if so
be they mean business without having
to put up witii any very long and ar-
duous courtships. To show thnt this
is no fake scheme to laud a bunch of
undesirable femininity on the guileless
bachelors of Cottonwood I'll mention
n few bargains that can be hnd on
their own terms:
Wo have in stock a family consisting
of five unmarried sisters and it's not
their fault either that they have not
married any one of these five would
not only jump but keep on jumping
or if necessary fall off the roof of a
three-story building for a chanco to
grapple with a male biped theythought
wanted to marry Inuldidually and
collectively they would see that tholr
husbands made them a living. This
Inst statement is authoritative and one
thnt the Cottonwood bachelors
can take lung odds on as no "baseless
fabric of a dream."
We have also on private exhibition a
(few other young things that as far as
variety in physique is concernd are all
tho way from a collection of bones to
what would be quoted as choice high
grade in a connubial market report
They range In height from long drawn
out down through medium short
shorter to sawed off
I have strictly abstained (tho Cot-
tonwood bachelors will notice while
describing our abundant supply of un-
married ladies) from individualizing
for this entire bunch of household
treasures is in the market nnd to elab
orate on the perfections of one would
be disparagement of-the others.
It will probnbiy bo questioned why
the unmarried men portion of this
community don't let the girls know
this is their year of privilege und they
tiro ready and waiting to be asked.
That's easy. The unmarried men por
tion or this locality witli few excep
tions ure not inclined to make martyrs
of thomselves knowingly and are
averse to taking any chances whatso
over with the home product.
