RAIN!
WE NEED A BRIDGE.
During the past week the thought
must bavo occurred to overjor'o' tbat
no need a bridge across tho Beaver
river at this placo and wo need it bad.
Owing to tbo heavy rains along its
courso the Beaver rivor has been past
fording tbo groator portion of tho l.Mt
weok and from all indications will con-
tinue so for another week or ton days.
Some timo sgr the ruoition of build-
ing a bridge was sgitated but when
the high water receded tho movement
was lost eight of.
In our opinion tho best method to
pursae in this matter is to ''pass around
tho hat" and get as much as possible
and then go before tbo county commis
sioners and ask thorn to appropriate the
balance which should not be a great
amount if each individual gives in ae
cordancc to the benefit ho would derive
from such a strncture.
Taking the past as aa example there
has hardly been a spring or fall that
the Beaver river has not been post
fordiog for from thrco days to two
weeks at a time thus cutting off our
nail service and our provisions as well
in many cases At the present time
Beaver is without meat and potatoes
and many other of tho staples of life.
'With tbo bridge across tho Cimarron
between hero and Meade and no other
river bstweon Liberal and this place
we could easily reach either place were
the means provided for croasing the
Beaver riror.
Wo hope the cit.'xcns of Beaver and
especially the business men will con-
sider this proposition and at no late
date call a mooting to sco wfiat can be
uono in i uo mailer. Meade bout a
bridgo across tho Cimarronj let us no
bo Ices cntcrplisiug than our neighbor-
ing city. Mr Busincss-msu you have

Freaka of tho Lightning.
During tho fi'.orni of last week the
lightning played curious pranks on the
paaturo fenco of 0. J. Loofbourrow.
The fen co on his pssturo in the Sand
hills north of tbo river was struck in
several JilTeicnt places. One placo the
wire was chopped into small pieces as
if it had been shipped with wire snip-
pers. Tho small particles lay thick on
the grouod and looked much the same
as if a keg of nails had boon scattered
about. In another placo tbo wire waa
not broken but for about a quarter of
1 mile wat turned perfectly white ex-
cept the barbs which rcraslted their
original color. The posts of the fence
were not damaged except a few bring
slightly scerehed. In addition to tho
damage dono lo tho feuce Mr. Loof-
bourrow had three cattle killed by tbo
lightning.
