Description:

Photograph taken for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "Wrecking crews prepare to haul away Aubrey Sherman Handley's auto at SW 27 and Youngs after it was involved in a two-car smash-up. Three women were seriously injured early Monday in a two-car collision at SW 27 and Youngs. Admitted to Mercy hospital with undetermined, but serious injuries were Mrs. Irene C. Kelly, 43, of 2336 SW 35; her daughter 17-year-old Jane Marie Kelly, and Mrs Maggie Mae Crail, 54, of 2337 SW 31. The trio was injured when their auto, driven by Mrs. Kelly, collided with a vehicle driven b Aubrey Sherman Handley, 34, of 2414 SW 27. Investigating officer Bill Lewellen said Handley will be given a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way. There is a yield right-of-way sign at the intersection, the officer said, the Kelly auto was hurled into a vacant lot at the Northeast corner of the intersection, and the three women were thrown from the car, apparently through the front door. Both the Kelly women were being X-rayed at Mercy, and attendants said the teenager suffered apparent head and spinal injuries; that Mrs. Kelly has chest and arm injuries, plus severe lacerations about the head and shoulders. It was reported that a bone specialist had been called in to determine Mrs. Crail's injuries."
