ELEVENTH YEAR.
FIRST PAPER PUBLISHED IN LINCOLN COUNTY. H. B. GILSTRAP, EDITOR AND PUBLISHER.
CHANDLER, OKLAHOMA, JANUARY 30, 1902.
NUMBER 20.
Cotton Shipments from Chandler to Date Aggregate More Than 13,500 Bale/

' INCE the demo-popocratic party
came into existence the rarity
of our being compelled to witness the
frantic manifestation of evidences of
their own realization of a guilty con-
science, is marked only by the num-
ber of times they have succeeded in
gaining the power of government.
This aggregation of populists and
democrats, fused into an unwieldly
mass having as many ism's; vague
and impracticable ideas of reform as
they have factions or members, have
never failed to acquaint us that they,
at least, know one thing and that one
thing is a knowledge of their short-
comings. From South Dakota, with
its discredited Pettigrew, to the Pan
handle of Texas, the pops have never
been entrusted with the government
of municipality or commonwealth,
. but they have rushed into print before,
any charges were made and attempted
to defend and excuse some unintelli-
gent or unbusinesslike, if not dis-
honest, expenditure of the public
money. This truth was brought im-
mediately to our attention last week

find themselves outside the battered

democratic editors—very few, how-
ever, in Oklahoma—who express
opinions tending to the upbuilding of
the commonwealth without persist-
ently passing up the good and seek-
ing for something or somebody upon
which to pour forth abusive and
petty prose into public ears. Abuse
is the universal argument of the
average democratic editor. Those
of the rabid element of the territorial
press have persistently denounced
Delegate Flynn and his statehood
bill as a crime. To them there
could be no difference of opinion.
They professed to believe that no
honest man could, take any other
view than the one held by them.
