The third number of the Univer
sity Oratorical Lecture course will
be presented at the opera house on
Thursday evening; April 22. This
entertainment is given by home
talent under the direction of Miss
Grace King. To insure the people
of Norman that this will be the best
entertainment of the course and the
best ever produced by home talent
in this place would be simply re-
minding them of something they
already knew, when they pause to
reflect upon the fact that Miss King-
never goes before the public with
anything that is not first class.
This entertainment will be the cel-
ebrated cantata Queen Esther.

On last Saturday morning Bailey
Is bell shot and killed Ben and
George Fox, near Sweeneys place
in the Kickapoo countrv. J he
shooting- seems to have been caused
over some horses that were the
joint property of fsbell and the
Fox's. Isbell is quite well known
in Norman having- once owned a
very fine farm north east of the city.
He was much addicted to drink _nd
when under the influence o( liquor
was almost certain to get into
trouble. His lust effort in that di-
rection was when he insulted the
wife of a resturant keeper and re-
cieved a broken arm for his trouble.
The next excursion to Port Ar-
thur will leave Oklahoma City on
morning- of the 20th.

Most all of the farmers in this
part of the Sac and Fox, are through
planting corn, and are ready to
plant their cotton.
Mr. Stone who lives south of Clif-
ton planted some cotton about two
weeks ago, most of the farmers
think it needless to be in too much
of a hurry, as there is very liable to
be some cold weather yet this
spring.
Chandler which is about fourteen
miles north and east of Clifton was
blown away by a cyclone on Tues- i
day March 30 about four o'clock p.
in. Tue report is that there were '
about one hundred and fifty injured
and something near twenty killed.
W. R. Hardy and wife went to
Chandler Sunday to see the wreck,
but they do not think the cv-lone
was so destructive or at least it did
not blow every tiling away so nice
and clean as the two that passed
through, near Norman, four years
ago this month. Of course there
were more buildings at Chandler
than there were in the country near
Norman, but quite a majority of the
business buildings just seemed to
be crushed, part of them were
buried.
Mr. Mance Willard, Miss (irace
Mapes, Mr. Bus Seetin and Miss
l>e!la Hardy had a pl-asant drive
to Chandler Sunday.
The Johnson school closed the
last,of last month. We were very
sorr) indeed to have to give up
the teacher (Miss Ada Meteer) as
she was a very hignly accomp-
lished young lady and was loved
and liked by all who knew her.
One of the school Trustees (Mr.
Charlie Mapes) presented a very
beautiful book to ()|a Seetin age
eight years for the best behavior
and for learning' her lessons better
than any scholar in school.
No more at present.
