Chicago, Dec. 17.— A mail collector
making his rounds this morning found
on a mail box two packages, one ad-
dressed to George M. 1'ullman's private
residence on l'rairie avenue, and the
other addressed to l\ 1>. Annou: resi-
dence at 37th street and Michi-
gan avenue, lie was suspicious of
the appearance of the packages, and

ages, Mr. Armour's private secretary

packagc was given to Inspector Stew-
art, of the postal inspection rvice,

ing to open it. A description of the

was given to the police. The package,

Washington-, Dec. 17.- A report was
current at a late hour last night that
about seven o'clock yesterday a small
rectangular box, very highly p"l> ■ '1,
was found at the door of Sen or Do
Lome, Spanish minister to the
United States. Mrs. Do Lome dis-
covered the package and, accord-
ing to rumor, she extinguished
a burning fuse in the box. I lie po-
lice, it is said, were given charge of
the case and they found that the box
contained explosives. It lias been im-
possible thus far to confirm 111 rumor
as the police and the attaches of the
legation refuse to talk about the mat-
ter.
