With reference to tlio execu-
tion ot J'rendorgast the Chicago
Herald sava: In the matter ot j
PrcurierguB there is just thin to
be said. It li« had been tried,
condemned add executed within
twenty-one days ot the eommias
ion ot lna crime justice would
have been tuUy subserved, llis
rights would have been just as
fully guarded us they have been
through the dilatory proceedings
that have ensiled. It is idle to
pretend that the quibblings and
evasions that, prolonged the as-
sassin's life were in the interest
ot justice. On the contrary, they
constituted a trilling with the
justice consequent upon trifling
with the courts. It is such cases
that breed the contempt tor the
law, now unfortunately too pre-
valent.
