Oklahoma will be supplied with
twine from the Kansas binding twine
plant at the penmitentiary during the
coming suirM'er. W. H. Haskell,
warden of the state pennitetitiary,
and the members of the boaniof di-
rectors of the institution, have decid-
ed that Oklahoma should have the
benefit of the labor of some of their
convicts confined iu the Kansas pen-
nitentiary., and that the sale of the
prisen twine to the Oklahoma
farmers will tend to balance the ac-
count.
"The Oklahoma farmers are alrea-
dy interested in our plant and in our
offer to Jet them have some twine. I
have received about twenty orders
already, and fifteen of these have
been from Oklahoma. The farmers
down there are not ordering large
amount-g, each man taking about fifty
pounds tor a sample of the kinds we
will put out. They will like the Kan-

grasses. The native grasses do not
yield sufficient pasture. Cultivated
hillsides are washing and need some-
thing to cover the soil. Overflow
lands along the rivers are lying idle
because of the risi taken when they
are cultivated.
Toe whole subject of grasses has
been given close study since Bulletin
No. 55 was issued in December, 1002.
Ihe results serve only to confirm the
statement made there, as follows:
"Of all the grasps tried on the
Station farm, Bermuda alone has
shown ihe qualities which must be
possessed by a pasture grass in Okla-
homa."
EXCURSIONISTS IN ENID.
The D. E. cfc G. ran an excursion
tram from Kiowa to Enid yesterday
and tiie Frisco did the same from
Avard all on account of the big ball
g.iuie between the Enid Firemen and
helena teams. The two excursions
aiade ti,e u;ual quiet Sunday in
liuid quite lively on the streets auu
aiouud the hotels. The visitors, wto
were in Euid for tne Urot time walked
several miles aroun. the business
section 01 the city looking up at the
sky scraptis in perlect astonishment.
One fellow remarked to a Wave re-
porter "big lu mess houses on one
side of the street and woods on the
other,—"any game 111 that big gov-
ernment timber reserv. over there?"
"Naw, but the game warden some-
time crosses it." TI e visitors en-
joyed the city and ball game hugeiy.
At a late hour in the evtning the re-
spective trains took them out on
the return trip. The city is becom-
ing popular for excursion trips, but
amusement in Enid out side of going
to church 011 Sunday is not plenty in
Knid.
