So many examples of ruin come to
young men from the use of cigarettes
and licpior that it seems strange that
any one should need further warning
against the baneful habit. How^
ever, young men continue to go down
to ruin in the face of the innumera-
ble examples these must be aware rf.
The following which appeared
among the telegrams seut over the
country a few days ago, should cause
every young of any strength what-
ever to utterly repudiate the mau-

"Governor Folk issued a unique
conditional pardon to Harry Patton,
of St. Clair county this afternoon.
Patton is the son of the late Judge
1 attou, of Warsaw, aud is 22 years
old. He was the support of his
mother, and bore a good reputation
until he began smoking cigarettes
aud drinking whiskey. Patton was
sentenced to the penitentiary for ten
years from March, 1904.
"Upon the reccomendatiou of
Judge W. W. Graves, who tried aud
sentenced him, the governor issued
the pardon upou the condition that
if young Patton smoked another cig-
arette or took a drink of intoxicating
liquor he should return to the peni-
tentiary aud serve the remainder of
his sentence."—Times Journal.
