TERESTS OF ONE OF
THE BEST TOWNS IN
OKLAHOMA
DEAL FOR EVERYONE
Vol. 3. No. 19
DAVENPORT, LINCOLN COUNTY, OKLAHOMA, THURSDAY, JUNE 1,1911.
Among the Farmers
By F. A. Mitchell.
Going northward one mile
from Davenport, we find Col. E.
E. Massey in charge of a gang
of men and teams, making a
bridge and doing an extensive
job of grading for the Santa Fe
railroad upon a public road near
the Swarts place. The Santa Fe
has always been delighted to as-
sist Davenport and this last act
will be greatly appreciated by
the citizens of our town as it
will be the means of turning
many loads of cotton our way.
Col. E. E. Massey is just the
man for this job. He under-
stands the business and can get
more work out of a gang of men
than any body else in the county
If Davenport could get Massey
to superintend their road build-
ing the work would be done and
satisfactory. Get Massey to set
the day when all stores should
close and everybody come and
work ou the road. Then let
Massey superintend all the work
and it will be done right.
We will be the first to donate
a day's work in person. We
will bring a team too and work
just when and where Col. Mas- j
sey designates. Who will be the
next? Come along now! Let
us have the road work done.
Different papers in the co ntty
are making mention of Daven-
port's efforts and we must make
good right now before cotton
commences to move. Her« we
ko. Fall into line.
To Bootleggers
Chandler, Okla., 5 24, 1911.
Mr. Bootlegger.
Sir:-In reply to your inquiry
of recent date will say that it
has been, since January 9th,
1911 and is now. the policy of
this office to furnish the United
States authorities with all infor
niation in our possession con
ceruing those who violate the
liquor laws of the United States
or of the state as soon as we j^et
through with them for violating
the laws of the state. The state
will punish him for violating the
prohibition laws of the state
after which we turn them over
to the United States for punish-
ment for violating the laws of
the United States. Thus yon
get a whole lot of experience in
discoveiing that the way of the
transgressor is hard.
Sincerely trusting that this
may be entirely satisfactory to
you I am sincerely yours.

PEOPLE WHO DO THINGS,"
Good spirits, enthusiasm, and confi-
dence are the natural right of every
healthy individual. Healthy people
must DO THINGS—they have that in
them that creates energy, that DE-
MANDS action. Have you only steam
enough to just drag around—despond-
ent, afraid of people no better than
yourself? Many a man lies awake all
night before an important business en-
gagement. Next morning, nervous,
disheartened, he walks around the block
time after time, afraid to irieet his
man and if lm does foree himself to
do so is in no condition to present his
plan or create a favorable impression.
in "Man Builder" we offer you a
remedy that would have given you
restful sleep; and, refreshed, with
nerves soothed and head up, you could (( would
meet President Taft and act with credit
We are of the opinion that if
you are expecting lo attend our
school you can no*; give a reason-
able excuse for postponing enter-
ing until Fall. We can present
sufficient proof to convince you
that the earlier you start in to
obtain a practical education, the
better it will be for you. We
have now almost as large an at-
tendance in the Summer as in
the Winter. Our past i ecords
shows that students attending
school in June, July and Aug-
ust make as goid progress as
those attending any other three
months in the year. This is due
to the fact that our schoolrooms
are cool and pleasant, and that
our teachers put forth the same
energy in the Summer months
as in Winter, tie who enters
now will finish in time for a good
position during the busy Fall
season.
If you have what you think
would be a reasonable excuse
lor not attending school before
Fall let us have it, and we will
give you our side of the question
If we can show you that you
can start into 1912 with more
money and a practical education
besides then you could continue
as you are until Fall and then
attend school, will we not -have
done a favor? Give us a chance
at your case. We have solved
the problem for many others,
as is proven by our large sum- j were 88 unpopular then as now. Cray

A GOOD SUGGESTION
In another column F.
Mitchell is suggesting this week j
that Davenport set aside a day
to work on the roads near town. J
It is a good suggestion and should
be complied with. One day's
work by all the men in town
and the farmers who live near
would make a great difference in
the roads leading into town and
would be greatly appreciated by
the farmers who intend to haul
their cotton here this fall.
