Dv the Holy Spirit Act
Directly on the Sin-
ner's Heart?
I should think myself a criminal
before Got! should I fail to ans-
wer this question. In Eph. 2-1
Paul said "You hath he quicken-
ed, who were dead in trespasses
and sins." Is this in keeping
with what Jesus says? John 16-7,
"Nevertheless, I tell you the
truth, it is expedient for you that
I go away; for if I go not away,
the Comforter will not come unto
you, but if I depart I wiil send
Him unto vou." Why should the
Master send the Holy Spirit?
John 16-8 tells us His mission:
"And when He is come He will
reprove the world of sin, and of
righteousness and of judgment."
Has any man a right to deny the
great purpose of the Holy Spirit,
or Its mission?
Since I have given Jesus' prom-
ise of the Holy Spirit and Paul
testified to in Eph. 2-1 that "you
hath He quickened" I feel satis-
fied that the question in all reas-
onable minds is settled.
Yet I shall see if there is not
some beautiful example under the
Gospel preaching where men's
hearts were moved. On the day
of Penticost when Peter preached
(Acts 2-37) ''When they heard
this they were pricked in their
hearts and said unto Peter and
the rest of the Apostles, Men and
brethren, what shali we do?
i (Acts 10-31). Cornelius was not
a saved man when he prayed and
gave alms, but God spoke to him
and told him "thy alms are had
^ in rememberance in the sight of
God." He told him to send for
Simon, whose surname was Peter
"and he will tell you what you
ought to do."
Peter preached and as he spoke
the Holy Ghost fell on all which
heard the word; then Peter com-
manded that they be baptized,
but they received the Holy Ghost
before baptism.
Another example we have:
Saul on his way to Damascus to
bring bound to Jerusalem anyone
in this way. (Acts 9:2-6) "A
light shown 'round him from
Heaven, and he fell to the earth
and heard a voice say, Saul, Saul,
why persecutist thou me." He
said "Lord, what will thou have
me to do, and Jesus said, go into
the city and it will be told thee."
In verses 10-11 of the same
chapter the Lord tells Ananias a

A PLEA TO PARENTS
At Sunday school last Sunday
morning, I think there were
about sixty present. Among the
number there was, I believ, one
mother, three or four fathers,
four or five young men, and a few
more^that of young ladies over
sixtee^ years old, and the rest
from sixteen down to about five.
Is it any wonder that the child-
ren are becoming unbelievers,
skeptcs, infidels, no-hellists, and
most any thing else except follow-
ers of the meek and lowly Jesus,
when parents are teaching them
such thing, if not in words, they
are by precept, and a greatmany
of them have their names on some
church register.
"Fathers and Mothers, wake up
and take some intrest in your own
and your children's spiritual wel-
fair. If you do not, turn to Rev.21
8 and see what kind of company
you will spend eternity with.
Your friend,
E. G. Hazelrigg.

TROUBLE MAKER
It is real astonishing to some
how that one man has reached
the place where he can conscien-
ciously renounce everybody and
every church and all religions
and claim for himself and his
ideas the only thing for men to
be saved by. We have had one
of that kind in our midst, yet he
failed to convince the public.
There are very few people today
that are so narrow as to believe
one man is all that is right.
When anyone dismisses the
Gospel plan of Salvation and tries
to make light of the knowledge
of sin forgiven, we say like the
Irishman "Batter, Batter, me
don't eat."
We all believe like Paul when
he said "the spirit itself beareth
witness with our spirit that we
are the children of God.—Rom. 8-
16. For me I had rather have
that evidence that I was a child of
God, than to be a millionaire
without it.
We all believe in baptism with
water as the Bible teaches, not
as a saving ordinance but as
Bishop of Hipo said over 1400
years ago "It is an outward sign
of an inward work."
Neither do any of us claim the
natural heart is affected or
changed, but we do claim that
the heart of a wise man lieth at
his right hand. The seat of life,
with the heart man believeth,
Rom. 1010. (Not with the head.)
We know that Christ dwelleth
in our hearts by faith. Eph. 317.
James says, "Draw nigh to
God and He will draw nigh to
you. Cleanse your hands ye
sinners and purify your hearts
ye double minded.—James 4-8."
We would like to call the at-
tention of some to the fact that
God gave Saul another heart.—
I Sam. 10-9.
Stephen met people who were
denying the work of God in the
hearts of people and he preached
like this: "Ye stiff necked and
uncircumcised in heart and ears,
ye do always resist the Holy
Ghost; as your fathers did, so do
ye."—Acts 7-51.
Gal. 1:7-8—"But there be some
that trouble you, that would pre-
vert the Gospel of Christ. But
though me or an angel from
Heaven preach any other Gospel
than that which we have preach-
ed unto you, let him be accursed."
I am sure that God will stand.
