for tM00 people in Galena and to-
night he spoke to an assemblage
of 25,0(10 people in this city.
At both places the enthusiasm
was tremendous and altogether
in keeping with the unprecedent
ed outpouring of voters to hear
the great democratic champion.
Galena and Pittsburg are in
the heart of the greatest fusion
stronghold of Kansas. Two
years ago Mr. Bryan carried the
district overwhelmingly and the
great interest manifested today
is a satisfactory omen that the
majority of 1896 will be sub-
stantially increased. Both meet-
ings have been greatly in exces:;
of what the local politicians and
anticipated. Even
was agreeably sur-
prised and declared that he never
welcome
anywhere.
At 1 o'clock tonight Mr. Bryan
goes to Fort Scott where he
speaks to-morrow foenoon. From
there lie goes to Kansas City.
In front of Mr. Bryan at the
Galena speech was a telephone
receiver by means of which num-
erous subscribers in Galena, Car-
thage, Webb City, Joplin, Baxter
Springs, Pittsburg and Weir City
were able to hear a greater por-
tion of what he said.

The parties who have aided in this
matter deserve the hearty support of
the people along the line, who are thus
given this great convenience. Look
the list over carefully and when you
coiue to Lexington remember the ones
who have shown a willingness to accom-
modate you. You will find them ener-
jetic, active and ready to give you ev-
ery advantage in the way of trade. You
will find that Lexington affords you an
unequalled market for all lines of pro-
duce, while offering you the largest
lines of goods to choose from. Compe-
tition is keen in all lines, making
prices very low. If you have never
tried the town as a market, come in and
see what it will do for you.
The telephone line is run on the fee
system, a small price being charged as
toll, lor twenty-five cents you can talk
with any town on the line. It is the
aim of the proprietors to make the line
as great an accommodation as possible
to all those in its neighborhood and it
is hoped that all will avail themselves
ot its service. The instruments are
placed in the most central place in each
town and the utmost care will be exer-
itcd in meeting the wauts of patrons
