HON. JOSEPH WISBY AT IIL'N-
NESSEY.
The Hon. Joseph Wisbv, Demo-
cratic candidate for delegate to Con-
gress, filled his appointment here
1 ast Wednesday afternoon.
Tin- audience was not very large
but enthusiastic in the support of
our next delegate to congress. The
meeting being held in the afternoon
occupied with their own affairs that
the meeting was much smaller than
it would have beeu had it been held
after niiiht. Nevertheless all who
heard Mr. Wisby speak were glad
they came out to his meeting.
There were a few populists present
who sought to interupt Mr. Wisby
in the course of his rcmarKs which
he in a gooil natured way turned to
good account. All reasonable men
who heard him speak and thereby
became familiar with his manner
and methods are satisfied that the
democracy made an excellent choice
when they nominated him as their
standard barrer. His
ami methods stamp him an
and candid man, who says just what
lie belie\es to be true, who, though
not a forensic orator, is a good
thinker and a sound reasoner. He
easily convinces the people that his
election to the office of Delegate
will be to the benefit of the settlers
of the Strip, Cheyenne and Arapa-
hoe countries, who above all other
of brazen audacity, to place
the blame for the trouble and the
distress the country has suffered the
past two years at the doors of others,
the leaders of the Republican party

that it is responsible therefor. The
situation is tersely epitomized in
the following excerpt from the
Hon. Frank Kurd's speech at Col-

passed until hope began to tail and
despair had siezed the managers of
nearly every enterprise in the land

for this condition was the Demo
eratic party in any way responsible.
Whatever disturbances come through

the wrongs which make retorms
necessary, and not agaiust the re-
torms themselves."
These facts are understood by the

TREATMENT Or TYPHOID
PEVER.
Temperature of Patients Re-
duced by Cold Baths and the
Disease Brought Under
Control.
One of the latest advances the
specialists ha ve made is ill the treat-
ment of typhoid fever. The first
case in Washington that was treated
bv the new method was at the Col-
umbian Hospital, some weeks ago.
The i lea of the treatment is rational,
that is to lower the temperature of
the patient ami give a chance for
sleep and rest to build up the consti-
tution iliat the fever is wearing
down. The patient, instead of be-
ing allowed to lie for twenty-one
days burning to death, at a temper-
ature of 100 plus, is taken at the
first stages of the fever and given
cold baths, not plunged into ice-cold
water, but in a bath about blood
beat and ice water gradually added
till the temperature of the'patient,
which is taken constantly with the
Then the patient is removed from
the bath, thoroughly dried ami
wrapped in blannets and given a
little stimulant to induce a healthy
reaction. Then the sick one falls
o!T into a quiet, natural sleep, which
v i 11 lant from half an hour to three
hours, and at the end of that time,
when the temperature rises to fever
heat again, it is reduced by another
bat ti. This is kept up till* the tever
is tin ill) broken. The case treated
at tin Columbia was sucoesstul.

than the old style of treatment can
Secret Oath Bound Organiza-
tion of the Populists in Okla-
homa.
It comes from many places in
Oklahoma Territory that there has
been organized in every county a
strong Mafia, or Gideon's Band,
which is a secret, oath-bound organ-
ization and the penalty for telling
the secrets is death. The organiza-
tion is in the interest of the Populist
party, and it is said the instigators
and promotors are Leo Vincent,
formerly of Topeka, Kan., but now
editor of a Pop paper in Guthrie;
Fred L. Bailey, the right bower of
Jerry Simpson, a member now of
the Perry townsite board, and Ralph
Beaumont, who came here six
months ago from New York, and is
the Populist nominee for Congress
from the Territory. The organiza-
tion is very strong among the Pops,
and has recently been given away
by members who have failed to get
the nomination for the offices they
were seeking.
The purpose, say those who have
Kicked out of the traces of the oath-
