Engineering Building, which in

Mr. J. A. Miller, formerly of
Norman died at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Tom Duffy at
Chickasha last Thursday morning.
He was about 80 years of age, and
had been in poor health for several
months.
The remains were brought, to Nor-
man Saturday and interment made
in the I. O. 0. F. cemetery beside
Mrs. Miller.
The deceased leaves four daugh-

Improving Denver Roads
The Denver road is being greatly
improved by the farmers along the
road. Work was begun at the cor-
ner of the Hutchin farm and will
be cleared up and graded through
the bottoms, which is three miles.
When completed the road will be
in first-class shape, and the far-
mers are to be congratulated for
the excellent work they arc doing.

K. P. Amrein, of Noble towil-'
ship, authorized us to announce him j
as a candidate for the democratic
nomination for sheriff, subject to |
the action of the democratic pri-
mary, August 4th.
Mr. Amrein was born on Sep- j
teraber 5. 1 S(>(> in Germany, and at j
the age of 15 lie moved with his I
parents to Montague. Texas, where
he lived until t889. coming to ok-
lahoma ut the opening, lie settled
on the farm that he now owns, 4
miles east of Noble, where be lias
made bis home ever since.

the hands of the voters, though he
has always taken an active interest
in politics and has given much of
his lime and money for the success
of the democratic party.
Mr. Amrein is a christian gentle-
nian, and believes in law enforce-
ment in every respect, and if nom-
inated and elected sheriff of Cleve-
land county you can count on it
that the laws will be. enforced.

Mr .las. D. Maguire was taken
sick very suddenly Sunday morn-
ing, and the family physician was
called, and upon examination the
doctor pronounced his ailment a
severe attack of appendicitis and
recommended an operation at once
I>r. Blesh, an expert surgeon of
( Iklaboma City was called, arriving
at 10 o'clock, and an operation was
performed at midni; ii' at the Ma-
guire home, the case 11 ing consid-
ered too serious to rei >ve the pa-
tient to the hospital.
The attack came veiy suddenly :
and the physicians say it was
caused by a bursting of the appen-
dix, which caused the mattei from
it to get info the intestines. The
operation was quite a success and
the physicians are confident that
he will soon recover, as he is iiu- ,
proving very nicely at the present j
time.
Telephone Company to liuild
The Norman Telephone Co. will
soon begin the erection of a build- !
itig on their lots on the corner of
Main and Santa Fe. The building
will be 40x60, one story and base-
ment.
The company will also put in the
Cent ral Energy System before mov -
ing into their new building, and
everything will be right up-to-date.
The Messrs Smith are to be con
trratulated in their efforts to give
Norman the best, telephone system
possible.

The news of the death of Mrs.,
Bessie McDaniel, wife of Job Me-
Daniel, at her home near Cimarron
county, Friday, was received by
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. McDaniel, of
Route 1. Saturday. She lias been
in poor health for some time, and
her death was not. unexpected.

Judge lived at old Beef Creek and
is well and favorably known to the

many friends and supporters here.
He is now serving his second term
of County Judge ot Cleveland coun-
ty and was nominated for the sec-
ond term without opposition in his

(' M* S. M' Lellan, author of
"The Pink Lady." which will be
seen at the Overholser Theatre,
l'Vby 18 19th, Wednesday and
Thursday was formerly the editor
of the New York society paper,
"Town Topics." During his spare
time he wrote plays. He was un-
able to get an\ ae 'opted. In a
moment of anger he started and
then completed the musical comedy
"The Belle of New York." He
remarked to his secretary, ."I'll
give them what fliey want." The
hit of this musical comedy is now
stage historv and McLellan then
unloaded all of bis rejected manu-
script on the producers. Many of
tlieni arc now immortal. "Leah
Klesi'hiio" aud "Judith Zaraine"
are even now characterized as rep-
resentative u|' the best m in con-
temporaneous play writing. The
eminent author has again turned
to his musical comedy muse and
the result is the immensely suc-
cessful "Pink Lady." It will live
forever.
Everett Sherman, while re-build-
ing a fire at his home at Lexington
Sunday, came near losing the sight
of his eyes from the effects of gas
from the smothered coal gpshing
into his face. He was given ini-
; mediate treatment and we learn
that he is improving nicely at pre-
' sent.
