Milwaukee's
Experiment
The Socialists who art in con
trol of the city of Milwaukee are
going before the Wisconsin legis
lature with a lot of proposed leg-
islation that will- give the city
I authority to do nearly anything
in the way of controlling the bus-
I iness of the town.
If they get what they ask then
I they cannot only own and oper-
ate their own waterworks, lights
and street car lines, but the city
can build houses and rent the
same.
How they will succeed in case
they get the rights from the leg-
j islature of course will be told by
jcxj.ierii.nct. It is going to be an
interesting experiment. It the
Socialists of Milwaukee make a
aiicccst) of it other cities will fol-
low suit. If they succeed it will
have the effect to increase the
power and growth of the Social-
ist party. --Tom McNeal.
The Free Notice
Nuisance
Advertisements appearing as
reading notices have been attack-
ed from two angles during the
past week. Senator Owen has
introduced a bill that will stop
the appearance of advertisements
appearing as "pure reading" if
the bill becomes a law. The bill
provides that all paid advertise-
ments shall be so labeled ; failure
to do so carries a penalty of $1000
tine. The postmaster general is I
given authority by the bill to barj

quests for the publication of
reading notices, or other free j
