FEED SHORTAGE CONFRONTS
STATE
Oklahoma City, Okla., Nov.21
(Special.)—The livestock indus-
try of Oklahoma is passing thru
one of the most critical periods
in the history of the state, ac-
cording to the Oklahoma State
Council of Defense, which has
been called upon during the past
week to aid in half a dozen dif-
ferent sections either to furnish
stock cars in which to ship stock
out, or box cars in which to ship
in. Drouth in the wheat section
has made fall pasture practical-
ly a total failure. Frost at a
critical time cut short prospects
for a heavy late feed crop in
western Oklahoma.
Every effort is being made to
obtain cars for the movement of
stock, and in the meantime the
state council is appealing to
farmers and stockmen to hold on
to their breeding stock and their
young stuff if possible to do so.
"The condition in Oklahoma,"
the statement says, "is similar
to that in many other parts of
the country. This condition, to
gether with the war, is tending
to drain the entire country of
livestock. Unless an unusual
effort is put forth, the entire
country will find itself without
cattle and hogs at a time when
the demand for meat will ex-
ceed any former demand.
"Both the interest of the na-
tion and the interest of individ-
ual farmers demand that at least
the young stuff and the breeding
stuff be held in the country.
Feed must be conserved as care-
I fully as food. Farmers of each
| section must help each other in
| this crisis. The state council of
defense will join with the cor-
poration commission and railroad
officials in attempting to provide
cars for the movement of feed
and stock."
Protracted meeting at the
United Brethren church in Reed-
ing will begin tonight. Every-
body is invited to attend.
A. 6. C. Elects Officers
The Adult Bible Class met at j
the M. E. church Wednesday
evening for the purpose of elect-
ing a class president and secre-
tary.
The house was called to order
by Mrs. Catt. At the close of
the usual business session all
joined in singing a few sacred
selections, after which Mrs. Rec-
tor and Mrs. Mclntire surprised
us with a delightful lunch con-
sisting of sandwitches, pickles,
coffee and cakes.
